Choosing the right format for your site.

Most Pub Clarity publishers run two to three formats in combination. The format mix depends on the publisher's content type, traffic source, and reader behaviour. There is no single "best" format — only the right mix for a given site.

For article and editorial publishers, the strongest mix is typically outstream + one in-content display + sticky on mobile. This earns video CPMs on the article column, captures a high-viewability display impression below the fold, and adds mobile yield through a compliant sticky anchor.

For video-first publishers, the mix shifts to instream video as the primary monetization + native in recommendation widgets + light display in companion placements. Instream carries the yield; native and display fill out the page.

For shopping and e-commerce content, native + outstream typically outperform standard display because the formats match the reader's product-discovery mode. Sticky is usually disabled on product detail pages and checkout flows.

GAM Creative delivery is a separate path: it is for publishers who already run their own Google Ad Manager and want to keep ad-server control. It is not exclusive — a GAM-using publisher can run the standard pc.js tag for some formats and the GAM Creative path for instream video.

Common format questions.

Questions publishers ask when comparing formats.

Can I run all six formats on one site?

Technically yes, practically no. Running every format on every page dilutes yield and hurts the reader experience. The two-to-three format rule is what data supports across the publisher cohort.

Does the same tag handle all formats?

Yes. The Pub Clarity pc.js loader handles every format from one script. The slot div's data-pc-type attribute tells the engine how to render. Publishers can add or remove formats from the dashboard without changing any code on the page.

Which formats need consent?

All formats respect TCF v2 consent. Personalized demand requires opt-in; without it, the waterfall falls to non-personalized demand. The behavior is automatic — publishers do not configure consent per format.

Are there formats I should not run on certain pages?

Yes. Sticky on checkout flows is off by default. Outstream on landing pages is off by default. Refresh on native is off by default. The conservative defaults are designed to keep AdSense accounts safe; per-section overrides are available in the dashboard.

Can I A/B test format mixes?

Per-publisher A/B testing is on the roadmap (Q2). For now, publishers can compare format-mix performance across time windows in the Reports section.
